Sir Ammic RomanoIn 1997 I joined up with the Michigan Renaissance Festival as a street entertainer, performing magic, juggling, comedy, and anything else people would watch. Of course, being a historical period thing, I needed a costume, character, and most of all a name for myself. Fortunately, my mother made the wonderful peasant garb that you see me wearing. Well, everything but the hat, which is an authentic muffin cap from Chivalry Sports. For my character ... well, I couldn't really think of much except an English peasant. I was toying around with the idea of being an Irish farmer because my Irish accent is awesome and I love doing it, but then I thought, "What would an Irish farmer be doing at an English festival?" so I scrapped the idea and just stuck with English peasant. For my name, I chose "Ammic". One day at Festival, I "snuck" into the Children's Dell for their knighting ceremony and soon became "Sir Ammic". If you say it together it sounds just like ceramic. Of course, I can't take full credit for being that clever. Sir Ryosis the magician did play a little influence in my name choice. But then, in 1998 I decided that rather than being an English peasant, I would be a Romanian gypsy. I figured if anybody questioned why Ammic all of a sudden switched from English to Romanian, I could just tell them I was an undercover spy the previous year seeing if Hollygrove was safe for my kumpania to move into. I added on the surname "Romano" and my friend Bryan teamed up with me as my big brother "Ogre Romano". Well, he was my big brother because he was larger than I was. I was his big brother because I was older. For 1999 we auditioned a stage show I wrote called, "The Romano Brothers Gypsy Show". I thought it was great, but Festival in all the wisdom decided not to accept our show. My street contract fell though and that was the end of the Michigan Renaissance Festival for "Sir" Ammic (Romano). Sniff sniff. Who knows, I may return to them yet someday.
